A piece that tests the limits of the listeners’ experience: accompanied in an ethereal and likewise unapproachable way by eight instrumentalists, the two solo singers form strange primordial sounds. No text, no meaningful words; all that is recognizable are phonemes – a constant flow of them – which are, however, infused with such subtly emotive qualities that thematic content becomes intelligible without having been clearly formulated. A playful archetypical exchange with pre-linguistic elements which also points at fundamental components of communication. On the one hand, the title of Billone’s piece, which is a continuation of his 2016 composition Face, plays with the bilingual meaning of the word, which means ‘light’ in Italian. On the other hand, through Dia.De reference is also made to the dyadic principle inherent in the two-voice part that is to be conceived as one.
