The vision of a self-determined society made up of emancipated individuals infuses Mathias Spahlinger’s doppelt bejaht. Originally conceived as an orchestral work for the Donaueschingen Festival in 2009, the chamber orchestra version for 18 musicians will be performed for the first time at Klangspuren. Without a captain at the helm, the musicians will have to decide for themselves how to musically navigate the complex twists and turns of the piece. Based on seven sound modules played in various instrumental constellations, it is up to each musician to choose which of the usually three proposed transitions to take. Musical communication and a bold individual willingness to take initiative are prerequisites for the successful interpretation of the work. A challenge for the oesterreichische ensemble für neue musik, for although it doesn’t exactly need to improvise, it does have to approach this fascinating and multifaceted piece with utmost flexibility.
